Overview
Kris Dawes is a partner and co-founder of Spearhead Legal LLP. His practice focuses on intellectual property and technology litigation and litigation management. Kris has extensive experience as an in-house litigation attorney in a highly competitive and litigious technology industry, with expertise in managing and advising on a wide variety of litigation issues. As outside counsel, Kris has served as a trusted legal advisor to numerous leading technology companies in litigation, pre-litigation, licensing, and contract negotiation matters.
Kris earned his law degree from Columbia University School of Law. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington.
Kris is a member of the State Bars of California and New York. He is admitted to practice before the Central and Northern Districts of California, the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Representative Matters
Kris has extensive experience handling all aspects of in-house litigation management for large technology companies. He has managed a large docket of active, high-stakes litigation, pre-litigation, indemnity, subpoena, and other matters. In that capacity, he has been responsible for substantial litigation budgets, coordinated with and advised internal stakeholders, and led cross-functional teams of attorneys, engineers, finance personnel, and other staff, both in connection with particular matters as well as to design and implement litigation process improvements.
In addition to his in-house experience, Kris has extensive experience representing technology clients in a broad range of litigation matters:
- Represented consumer electronics companies in multiple litigations involving Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other communications technologies, including: Ericsson Inc., et. al. v. D-Link Corporation, et. al. (E.D. Tex.); Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation v. Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. et al. (E.D. Tex.); Wi-Lan, Inc. v. Westell Technologies, Inc. et al. (E.D. Tex.); NorthPeak Wireless, LLC v. 3Com Corporation et al. (N.D. Cal.).
- Certain Ceramic Capacitors and Products Containing Same (ITC): Represented a multilayer ceramic capacitor manufacturer in a Section 337 investigation involving four patents before the International Trade Commission.
- Certain Blu-Ray Disc Players, Components Thereof and Products Containing Same (ITC): Represented a major consumer product manufacturer a Section 337 investigation involving BD-Live functionality in Blu-ray players before the International Trade Commission.
- Walker Digital LLC v. Google Inc. et al. (D. Del.): Represented a major software developer and major device manufacturer in patent litigation involving electronic mapping and navigation technology.
- The PACid Group, LLC v. Cisco Systems, Inc., et al. (E.D. Tex.): Represented a technology company in joint defense group in patent litigation involving encryption software.
- Hybrid Audio LLC v. High Tech Computer Corp. aka HTC Corp., et. al. (E.D. Tex.): Represented a major device manufacturer in patent litigation involving filter banks used in codecs relating to the MP3 and AAC standards.
- Pacific Coast Marine Windshields Limited v. Malibu Boats, LLC, et. al. (M.D. Fl.): Represented boat manufacturer in litigation involving utility patent, design patent, and copyright infringement.
- Central Admixture v. Advanced Cardiac, et al. (N.D. Ala.): Represented leading pharmaceutical supply company in a patent infringement case involving cardioplegia solutions.
